Throughout December we offered the opportunity for over 30 people to win a prize of your choice from an amazing bundle of prizes that we pulled together from our generous partners, worth around £30,000.
Each day, we took a closer look at each of the prizes in turn. Today we are looking at a copy of Avid Pro Tools 2019 Perpetual License Courtesy Of RSPE Audio Solutions worth $599.
The competition closed on December 31st 2019 and we’re pleased to be able to announce the winner is Randy Johnson.
The prize of Pro Tools perpetual license Is just what I need at this time! My business partner, Richard Moore and I have been running Tag Team Audio here in Portland, Oregon for almost 20 years. We built it to mainly cater to the commercial film/video production market and kept it streamlined. However, as Richard is a masterful songwriter, we couldn’t help but crank out a few albums and scores. Over the years we’ve scaled back on outboard gear and almost all of our processing is now done in the DAW.
My voice talent career has become half of my income and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get to the studio to do jobs and auditions. So, I just bought a vocal booth for my home and now I can record VOs in my underwear. (I’m sure Richard appreciates that). The problem for me is that I can’t get used to editing on other DAWs. I’ve tried, but my fingers just want to hit shortcuts for Pro Tools. I guess that should be expected after 29 years of use. Pro Tools will be a very welcome addition to the home studio!
I’ve been using Pro Tools since 1991 and started with version 1.5 on a Mac IIci. It was only 4 tracks back then and in order to mix down, you needed to export to a separate program. That didn’t stop me from abandoning my Otari MTR90 MkII and ping-ponging tracks in Pro Tools. As much as I appreciate having started my career in the analogue domain, I don’t miss the razor blade cuts and having to align tape machines. So, long ago I embraced the DAW and have never looked back.
My career spans a range of disciplines, such as radio personality, news videography, live sports, live music, conferences, field recording, commercial soundtracks, documentary sweetening, audiobooks to name a few.
After moving from Alaska, at 16 I started working at Guam at an AM/FM/TV station. I took advantage of having a key to the facility and would come in at night… playing with the equipment and learning everything I possibly could until morning. I eventually moved back to Alaska and for 15 years worked at a film/video production house where I helped build two audio studios (the first in the basement of a log cabin) for film/tv/radio production. In 1996 I finally landed in Portland, Oregon where I’ve continued to do every kind of audio work I can get my ears on.
What I think I do best is commercial audio production… editing dialogue, sweetening for documentaries and television spots, etc. I also work as a voice talent which takes care of the other half of my income. I still occasionally do live sound for music events too. Portland has a vibrant production community supported by the arts community, high-tech, manufacturing and film industries and more… I’ve done audio work for all of them.
I love Production Expert! Keep up the excellent work!
