Last week our team read of a Studio One user whose studio Apple Mac had unexpectedly died. Needing a replacement fast but with budget limitations, he decided to buy a Windows machine to replace it.
His argument was that as Studio One runs on both macOS and Windows his choice of OS was not important. Had he been a Logic Pro user, for example, then that decision would have been a lot harder, as he would have either had to buy a Mac or change DAW as well as computer and operating system.
This led to a team discussion about how much software runs on both Mac and Windows and what software is only available for one OS. It also led us to wonder how much this determined his choice of a computer when making a purchase.
It’s not only software but also plug-ins that are sometimes tied to one OS and in some cases hardware too, hampered by driver development.
These are all factors that determine our decision making, but how much effect do they have?
Why not take our poll and let us know and please do comment about your joys and frustrations with software compatibility. Please tell us which software and plugins, that are only available on one OS, have affected your choice of going for a Mac or Windows computer.
