In this free video tutorial brought to you in with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates some differences between the two available channels in the Engl E765, both tonally and in terms of gain.
Engl E765
One of two Engl amplifiers available in the range, the E765 sits toward the vintage end of the spectrum, offering plenty of gain but with creamy flavour, as opposed to the modern tones available in the Engl E646 VS.
Recording Chains
As with a real amp, the choice of tonal differences introduced by the wide variety of recording chains - the cabinet, mics and EQ are just as significant as any differences between the two channels and the EQ settings of the amp. As with all Brainworx amp sims there are a wide variety of choices available here.
Gain Structure
To balance this guitar track against the first guitar track, as set up with the Bassdude in a previous video, the gain setting both in and out of the E765 have to be carefully set up and by using the input gain, as opposed to the preamp gain, and the power soak controls in the FX rack, it is straightforward to set up guitar tones with exactly the right amount of crunch on either channel.
