We can announce that The Art Of Recording A Big Band from Al Schmitt is now available for streaming and download from Groove3 for $24.99 to download or available for streaming with the Groove3 All Access Pass. The Art of Recording a Big Band was filmed at the famed Capitol Studios in Hollywood, CA, over the course of a two-day master class by industry legend Al Schmitt and partner, Steve Genewick recording Chris Walden's GRAMMY® Awards-nominated 18-piece jazz big band and is available as a DVD.
Short of being in the studio with them this is as close as it gets to witnessing recording genius at work.
The idea was a simple one. Record a live big band, film it and at the same time have some paying guests in the studio control room to ask questions and try to get Al to give up some of the tips and tricks that have made him a 23 time Grammy Award winner.
Al and Steve decided to open the session up to some paying quests. One of the first to sign up was Andrew Scheps, later to be joined by Dave Pensado and Ryan Hewitt to name but a few.
The 22 piece band in question is that of German born Chris Walden (composer / arranger / conductor) himself a 6 time Grammy nominee and is made up of some of LA's top session musicians. The two day session was recorded at Capitol Studio A in Hollywood through their beautiful Neve 88R console.
