We recently ran a post looking at the history of Sampling Frequencies. Why We Choose 44.1K And 48K? A Historical Look At Audio Sample Rates attracted a lot of attention and we thought it would be interesting to run a survey of the community to find out what sample rate people principally work at in their studios.
We last ran a poll on this subject back in 2019. In that poll we found that the overwhelming majority of our audience were working at 44.1/48KHz. 4 years is a long time in technology and we wanted to identify any change in behaviour over this time. We also wanted to gather opinion on why people make the decision they do.
Professional/Non Professional
The survey asks whether respondents are professional or non-professional, we chose that wording carefully as we are trying to identify working patterns and pressures which influence decisions. The word professional shouldn’t be seen to be about the quality of the work being done or the skill of the operator.
We also offer a choice of music, post or both as we realise that people working in both areas might have reason to principally work at different sample rates for each.
Why Do You use The Rate You Do?
Lastly we offer four reasons why respondents might make the choice they do and ask them to rank these alternatives in order of importance. These exercises can never suit everyone but for the sake of brevity only four are offered, please understand why something you feel is important isn’t offered and let us know in the comments.
Please complete the survey, the results will be shared very soon so check back.
