Anyone remember AutoSampler by Redmatica? About ten years ago it was the tool for complex sample management and (as the name suggests) automagically sampling all your keyboards into a software sampler. Apple bought Redmatica in 2012, so the capability now only exists as part of MainStage.
Thankfully we have SampleRobot, the modern functional equivalent. At NAMM they showed a version designed specifically to work with Montage, the do-it-all flagship PCM and FM synth from Yamaha. The application is the same: If you have precious vintage analog keyboards you don't want to take on the road, SampleRobot will record them into Montage-compatible performances so your Montage is all you need. It sends MIDI notes to the synth to play all needed notes and velocities (hence the MIDI-to-CV converter atop the Yamaha speaker in the video, as they were demonstrating with a pre-MIDI Yamaha CS-15). Then, it handles all of your keymapping, velocity layering, looping (if desired), and crossfades for you. Deep editing capabilities are also provided.
Enjoy this demo and more to come from NAMM 2018!
