"We're making a (insert musical instrument or pro audio tool here) that's the most innovative thing ever." (Fortner's eyebrows perk up.) "As a plug-in." (Fortner's eyes glaze over.) That's usually me, and I should have a better attitude about it. In the case of Polyverse Gatekeeper, I didn't need to, because the second half of that mood swing never happened. Gatekeeper is a volume modulation tool that works in the audio domain (or on MIDI volume if you want), but in fact it's the heaviest, most badass envelope generator ever created, in hardware or software. With any number of shapes and segments that can be as brief as a single sample, choppy dance-floor effects are just the beginning of the beginning of what it can do.
