We are pleased to announce the winner of our August prize drawing for a Novation PEAK polyphonic hybrid synthesizer: Hugo Leitão of Lisbon, Portugal. PEAK is an extremely capable hybrid polyphonic synth featuring digital oscillators generated by a high-resolution FPGA (field-programmable gate array), which then feed an analog filter section.
"I'm a film sound designer, re-recording mixer, and music composer," says Hugo. "Over the last 14 years I have been involved on creating soundscapes for various types of films. I also did some original soundtracks for most of them. Besides all the film work I also play synths in my band, Torpe. (Check out their Bandcamp page here and Hugo's personal Soundcloud page here.) Recently, I built my own dub stage from scratch, where I now work on a daily basis.
This is awesome news! I can honestly say I've never won anything before!"
Hugo goes on to describe how Novation PEAK will help him in his everyday work:
"In fact, my first analog synth was a Novation Bass Station back in 1995. Since then, my arsenal has kept growing and I don't plan to stop! Since my main tools are my synths, PEAK is an amazing addition regarding eight-voice polyphonic options. I'm very curious about the ring modulator, the modulation matrix possibilities, and also the distortion section. I'm quite sure PEAK will fit perfectly into the current score I'm working on now."
Hugo concluded with some kind words we really appreciated: "I've been following Synth Expert since day one and I really respect what you're doing for the community. Please keep going!"
Aw, shucks -- thanks bro! Enjoy your PEAK synthesizer and feel free to keep us posted on where and how you're using it!
