We are pleased to announce our first-place winner in UVI’s giveaway of a vintage Oberheim Matrix-6 hardware synth: Stefano Galante of Quebec, Canada. To recap, this was one of the synths used in the making of UVI's complete Vintage Vault 2 soft synth anthology. A second-place winner will receive that software package, and we will announce that winner in a separate post.
"I am a producer, songwriter, and mix and mastering engineer based in Montreal," he says. " I have a long working experience starting in the mid-1980s, and I lived all the process of going from the full analog world, two-inch tape, large-format consoles, heavy analog synths and keyboards, all the way to the latest digital technology: virtual synths, plug-ins, DAWs, and touch-screens replacing faders. I have produced, mixed, mastered, and participated in quite a few projects, and won a few awards including gold and platinum records. Currently I just built a new studio where I think I've found the right balance between technology and inspiration, warmth and productivity, and keeping very busy in many genres, mainly pop, R&B, and classical-crossover but also rock, jazz, and cinematic music."
Stefano is looking forward to the arrival of his Matrix-6. "In my long career I purchased many [analog and digital] synths, including rare beasts like the Yamaha DX-1, Korg PS-3300, et cetera, but for some reason never had a legendary Oberheim. I have a lot of projects where the real sound of the '80s is highly regarded and sought after, and I am sure this beauty will be put to the test really soon!"
Congratulations, Stefano, and we hope you make plenty of great music with your new-old Matrix-6!
