Propellerhead founder Ernst Nathors-Böös was once quoted as saying that the hugely popular music-making program Reason would add support for third party plug-ins "when hell freezes over." Reason's developers and marketers have always sought to distinguish its identity from that of a DAW, and have been quick to correct those who call it that.
Well, the underworld just may need some snowplows, because as of version 9.5, Reason has added support for VST plug-ins. Dante famously describes a very cold circle of the infernal regions as well, but rather than take you back to secondary school literature class, we'll let Mr. Nathors-Böös explain things for himself in his own blog entry. Notably, he assures users that Propellerhead will continue to develop and support its own Rack Extension (RE) format, which has hosted a fair amount of third-party virtual instruments as well.
