If you are tired of using a right mouse click to name or rename the pads in Impact XT, the new killer drum and loop virtual instrument in Studio One 4? If you are then here's a Studio One 4 quick tip.
One of the things PreSonus has been keen to point out with Impact XT is that is is tightly integrated with the Pattern Editor. This means when you select pads in Impact XT the corresponding lane in the Pattern Editor is selected, but it always works the other way around.

Right mouse clicking is so slow, so use this quick tip to speed up naming your pads.
Create a new Pattern in Studio One 4. If you've not used the new Patterns feature in Studio One 4 then watch our video Studio One 4 - Using Pattern Mode On Drums And Synths
Open Impact XT.
You'll see that the pattern has been populated with all the pads and their names from Impact XT, as well as the pad colours. If you've just dragged a load of samples in or created one by dragging them in then the pads may have pretty obscure names. This trick works with both new and existing Impact XT kits.
Now click the wrench icon at the top of the Pattern Editor.
Double click the first pad to rename it. Don't hit enter but hit the TAB key on your keyboard, the next pad name is highlighted down the list and is ready to be named or renamed. If you hit SHIFT and TAB then you can go back. As you rename the list you will see the pads are being renamed too. See the image below.
You may want to have a MIDI keyboard connected to help you identify the sound of pads whilst renaming, it's not essential but can make it even faster.
