Back in 2016, we ran a poll to ask what OS Studio One owners used, Mac or Windows.
The poll wasn't to discuss the merits of one OS over the other after all the best OS is the one that works for you. But in an industry that can often appear to be Mac-centric, in the case of our poll of around 600 Studio One users, 51% said they used Windows exclusively with just 34% saying they used Macs exclusively, the remainder used both.
There may be a number of reasons for the high percentage of Windows users, one of them must inevitably be the support that PreSonus give to Windows users, after all, there's a lot to be said for the expression 'you reap where you sow.'
This evidence of support is seen in several areas; first, the pluralistic support of both Windows and Mac with their desktop applications without any noticeable difference between the two platforms. PreSonus tablet and phone apps are available for both iOS and Android, the same can't be said for all other DAWs. Finally, the new line of Quantum interfaces has custom built drivers to support Thunderbolt on Windows, some hardware manufacturers have never bothered with others taking a long time to offer this.
These are possible reasons for the large percentage of Windows users.
Of course, one reason is the cost of entry, a Windows computer is normally a lot less to buy compared to the equivalent Mac and also a Windows PC is far more customisable - these may also be reasons for the large difference. When Pro Tools users were asked the same question about the computer they used the answer was nearly 70% Mac.
One question that some of you may be able to answer is did you buy a computer to use with Studio One? If so was it a Mac or Windows computer?
