By now, many of of you will be familiar with Accentize dxRevive which has proven itself to be a highly capable dialogue noise reduction and restoration plugin. Able to not only reduce noise, but also restore absent frequency content, remove clipping, eliminate codec artefacts from the likes of Skype or Zoom, and reduce reverb, it does a great job at improving the sound of problematic dialogue recordings at the turn of a dial.
dxRevive is available in two versions; standard and Pro. The standard version offers a single algorithm called Studio, which is designed to process dialogue to give the sound of a large diaphragm condenser mic. dxRevive Pro, builds on this with an additional algorithm called Retain which does everything but the application of EQ, which can be extremely useful in dialogue editing workflows where retaining the overall character and tonal quality of the original audio is important.
Accentize have just updated dxRevive Pro with two additional algorithms called Studio 2 and Natural. These include enhanced handling of frequencies above 4kHz, better handling of higher pitched voices and they also address potential robotic artefacts that could occur on some voices. Studio 2 is a revision to the original Studio algorithm and Natural is designed to remove background noises and reverb while restoring missing frequencies, albeit with less EQ manipulation compared to Studio. A new algorithm selector window provides clearer and easier-to-access information about different algorithms. Additionally, dxRevivePro now features individual Bypass buttons for each frequency band, facilitating effortless comparison of the changes made for each band.
In the video below, I demonstrate the new algorithms in dxRevive Pro, and also showcase a workflow where dxRevive Pro can be use in conjunction with Accentize Chameleon. In this workflow, noise is removed with dxRevive Pro and Chameleon is then used to analyse the original audio, build a reverb profile and then apply reverb which is exactly in keeping with that of the original, to the processed audio. The benefit of this is that it provides full control over precisely how much reverb is added, giving you the versatility to fine tune it, while retaining all of the benefits of the noise reduction and restoration that dxRevive Pro brings.
