Rumours started surfacing yesterday, February 1st 2023, that Universal Audio are shedding jobs, we have the details.
Universal Audio has laid off ten employees across the company. This includes significant roles like Senior Product Engineers, such as David Bock, formally the owner of Bock Audio, who were acquired by Universal Audio in October 2020. David was also Senior VP of Soundelux and also spent several years at Ocean Way studios. He is a well liked and influential member of the professional audio community.
Universal Audio confirmed the layoffs in a response to a question posted on Gearspace;
“Universal Audio has made the difficult but necessary decision to part ways with 10 employees from our worldwide workforce. It was difficult but required to meet new macro economic realities, in the interest of the company's long-term health.
This of course sucks and we feel for those affected. But it doesn't impact our ability to bring new things to market and continue to deliver all the amazing products we have in our line up.”
There had also been some rumours that Universal Audio were making the decision to focus on software, they responded to this suggestion in the same thread;
“No. We are a hardware and software company.”
This news comes on the back of complaints about their SPARK subscription service not working correctly for several days. Universal Audio say that they are working ‘dilegently’ to solve the issue.
