To find out how to ‘reset’ your trial, follow the instructions at the foot of this article. In the meantime, if you’ve not checked out Soothe2 or Spiff before, here’s a quick overview…
Soothe2
soothe2 is described by Oeksound as a ‘dynamic resonance suppressor.’ At its simplest it is a dynamic EQ, the clever bit is the automatic way it detects the resonances it suppresses. It finds harsh or unpleasant sounds in your audio and err.. soothes them. soothe2 saves time and effort in audio work. It is equally at home on individual tracks and on busses. It works wonders on anything from sound design and post-production to the most demanding mastering applications.
With soothe2 you can…
Remove harshness from close mic’d sound sources
Transparently manage sibilance in vocals and dialog
Treat uneven tonal balance from suboptimal recordings
Clear muddiness, boominess, and proximity effect
Soften overly bright guitar and piano recordings
Tame piercing synth sounds
Spiff
Spiff is an adaptive transient tool that cuts or boosts only the frequencies that make up the transient material, keeping the rest of the audio signal intact and free from side effects.
Whilst highly effective on mouth noises, hard consonants, clicks and pops, spiff also opens up an infinite number of possibilities for sound manipulation. Even on more extreme settings, spiff retains the original character of the sound, without introducing any nasty artefacts. Remove all attack from a piano, turn guitar parts into a lapsteel. Make a picked guitar sound fingerpicked. Remove the close mics from a drum recording. spiff is your one-stop solution for transients.
