For many, LANDR has an association with online mastering services, however the platform has more to offer for creators and collaborators. We have the lowdown.
The LANDR Story
Although online mastering services have been widely available for some time, perhaps the most well known of these is the LANDR platform. Since its launch in 2014, its AI driven approach was unique if not controversial. Fast forward eight years, and the concept of entrusting certain audio tasks to algorithms is no longer the radical prospect it used to be.
Beyond Mastering
With an established background in online, machine-driven products, MixGenius have gone on to expand into other areas such as distributing masters, as well as developing creator tools such as sample libraries and audio plugins for the DAW. This has culminated in a rounded online ecosystem of tools with a ‘just-add-DAW’ ethos. With this in mind, it’s possible to create music from start to finish using LANDR’s sample content, collaboration tools, and mastering and distribution capabilities.
Creating And Collaborating
Making music from scratch with LANDR is intended to be a streamlined, integrated experience which essentially comprises a handful of steps. Having created an account, users choose and All Access Pass plan that works for them. From the Dashboard, users then navigate between the Create, Collaborate, Master, and Distribute tabs, of which the first two have further options and ways to complete the task in hand.
Sessions Plugin
The Sessions functionality of LANDR is designed to allow musicians to communicate in real time. The workflow involves installing the Sessions plugin, which users insert on their DAW’s master output. Collaborators can then sign into LANDR directly from the plugin and use a web browser for Zoom-style video or audio chat. The chat utilises audio from the Sessions plugin in the DAW, with call and DAW audio configurable to use any available input and output device for custom setups.
Within LANDR, users can also build their profiles, search, and connect with other users with active accounts.
How Much Does It Cost?

For some, LANDR could be the platform to help them get creating, offering everything from conception to distribution. With the industry seeing an expansion in online collaboration tools and AI driven audio processing, LANDR hopes to be the one to bring all of these elements together into one system. Whether or not it will offer the ultimate creators’ panacea remains to be seen, but what it does do is offer something that is both integrated and unique.
