In Summary
Baby Audio’s Transit is billed as a creative transition designer for audio. With 18 effects available and 7 slots to load them into, all controls can be linked to the large automatable Transition dial for simple control of complex sounds. The tempo-synced Sequencer Loop mode can be used for LFO effect movements along entire tracks. Here we use it to show how to get complex transitions in a single move.
Going Deeper
For electronic styles, invoking transition effects between sections or whole tracks can add movement and dynamism that are staples of the dance mix toolkit. Compared to their video transition equivalent, these also combine a number of different treatments in one go that move together to propel the listener to the next place.
With roots in the kind of filter sweeps and basic modulation effects of earlier styles, electronic productions can now enjoy complex effects in the DAW that outstrip the built-in DJ mixer effects that started the trend in the 1990s. Joining these old favourites are contemporary sounds that can bitcrush, widen/narrow, pump up with oscillator sounds, or otherwise blow up the audio to let the listener know that something is about to happen…
Baby Audio Transit
Described by the Baby Audio as a transition designer, recently added to their emporium of creative tools is Transit. This brings together multiple effects into one window with seven slots available. Each of these has a handful of controls for effects’ main parameters with slider ‘handles’ to regulate the range of operation on most of these.
Transit’s big-sell is the fact that everything can be liked to one single macro - the Transition Control. In the video we show how to set up Transit to morph between two tracks creatively using just the Transition Control. Having explored its 18 effects, we show how to select and audition them, as well as how to link them to Transit’s big dial for them all. For some, automating just this one control will give mixers the ability to create complex chains of effects that morph in a single move.

Moving On
Creating audio transitions that draw the listener in have moved on from classics such as simple flanging or the filter sweeps that make the listener feel like they’re resurfacing from some kind of underwater Balearic adventure! Baby Audio say that they genuinely believe that this is a unique plugin; certainly its seven blocks linked to a single macro give mixers a quality palette of sweeteners or outright destruction for varying shades of movement and excitement between scenes.
Once it’s set up, Transit’s ability to morph creatively with one control sounds great and is much much quicker than curating and automating loads of single plugins. That means many mixers will love its one large Transition dial for anything from dynamic evolution to one-knob macro-mayhem.
