What DAW people use can get some hot under the collar, even more when you are asked to say which is the best. Our view at the Experts has always been the best DAW is the one that works for you. However, it’s interesting to see what DAWs people are using. It helps us create content that meets the needs of the professional community.
We say DAWs (plural) for a simple reason. Few people use one DAW, previous surveys conducted on this site have shown that many creatives us more than one DAW, with many using several to cover all the bases.
The post world is more likely to stick with one DAW and in many cases that DAW is Pro Tools. However, for several reasons, we can’t take that fact for granted with some emerging platforms moving into post audio work.
There’s been a lot of changes in the last few years when it comes to DAWs, with some new features being offered. For example, Logic Pro now offers an in the box Atmos mixing solution for those who want to mix multichannel music. There’s been some new advances in terms of video support, with Studio One 6 now offering more robust support for video. There’s also some new kids on the block, for example Fairlight as part of DaVinci Resolve, popular amongst post users. All these changes can mean that people shift to a new DAW, or adopt it as a second tool in their production workflow.
So take our 2023 DAW survey and let us know what DAWs you use for your work. If you would like to say why, then do so in the comments.
Thanks for taking the time to complete the survey, we’ll publish the results in the next few weeks.
