UJAM has released the latest in their range of virtual bassists. DANDY is about understated vintage basslines. Just a look at the names of some of the Style Presets gives you an idea of the personality of this instrument - “Space Left”, “Reliable”, “Honest”. You get the idea.
The UI shows a closeup of a Vintage Hofner “Beatle Bass” and the sound is in that territory though more flexible than just the deep, round compressed bass we associate with McCartney. Wind up the aggression and it can start to sound almost Rickenbacker-ish, though never going all the way to full hitting a drainpipe with a crowbar clanky Ricky!
For vintage pop and soul sounds it’s perfect and will fit well in rockier tracks where ROYAL is too modern and ROWDY too aggressive. Any song you’d consider using a bass with flat wounds, this will be perfect for!
DANDY Features
30 styles and 990 phrases
100 signature presets
4 character and smart mix presets each
15 built-in Finisher multi-effect modes
MIDI Drag and Drop and a resizable GUI
Instrument & Player modes, Studio One Chord Track and Key Switches
UJAM say:
DANDY sounds fantastic on any production that needs electric bass, but it’s particularly great on Soul, Pop, Blues and Rock tracks. Our custom-made DSP algorithms push the raw sound of the bass in many directions from soft, round tones (perfect for vibey old school soul and blues tracks) all the way to bright modern pop and rock. Try blending DANDY with your synth-bass lines to give them a little more life and sophistication!
Studio One Chord Track Integration
We recently reported on UJAM’s new integration with the Studio One chord track which arrived with the release of the 2.1 update. This functionality is incorporated into DANDY from day one so if you are a Studio One user check out the free demo. As well as the new features of the version 2 virtual bassists like MIDI drag and drop you also get integration with the amazing Chord Track.
