In this article we demonstrate a benefit of applying several different reverb types in a mix using IK Multimedia’s Sunset Sound Studio Reverb Plug-in. People new to mixing generally use a single instance of a reverb plug-in, typically on an effects return. This approach has time and again proved simple and effective as varying amounts of the same reverb can be applied to several tracks via send levels. We all know this, however, there can be times when this single reverb approach can limit creativity in a mix.
Mixing and blending different reverb types has many benefits. Often two reverbs working together provide unique tones which add a certain quality that single ambiences are unable of achieving alone.
Watch our free video to see how a small blend of five different reverb types gave depth and interest to a safe and dry sounding live band recording.
We produced this example using IK Multimedia’s latest reverb plug-in release which captures the acoustics of the iconic Sunset Sound studios including each of Sunset Sound’s studio live rooms, vocal isolation booths, three echo chambers, two plates and spring reverb.
