The Production Expert team took up an invitation to visit Remote Control, Hans Zimmer’s studio complex in Santa Monica, to get a hands-on demonstration from Peter Gorges of UJAM’s new Finisher NEO, their first foray into audio plug-ins.
What Is Finisher NEO?
Finisher NEO was inspired by feedback from users of UJAM’s recent CARBON Virtual Guitarist instrument. Unlike previous guitarists like IRON and AMBER, CARBON offers sounds ranging from ultra-modern guitar through to synth-like textures, largely due to the Finisher section, which introduces audio processing ranging from the fairly conventional through to the positively wild. Users liked the Finisher a lot and requested it as a separate audio plug-in. The result was Finisher NEO and its free counterpart, the cut-down Finisher Micro.
What We Think of Finisher NEO From UJAM
We really liked its “twist and go” mentality. By not offering deep control it encourages you to dial something up and try it. If you don’t like that setting move on and try something else. However, unlike Finisher Micro, Finisher NEO offers a central Amount knob and two Variation knobs that we think give just the right amount of tweakability without detracting from the original idea of a deliberately limited UI.
UJAM’s glitch-free operation means that you can automate not just parameters but program changes, something most plug-ins can’t manage and something which offers a lot of potential noise chaos!
Sound Issue
Unfortunately, the sound from Peter’s microphone wasn’t useable so we’ve made the best of what was picked up from other microphones in the room. Please excuse the less than ideal audio quality.
