Last month here at Production Expert, we offered you the chance to win a pair of EVE Audio SC 203 desktop studio monitors. We are pleased to announce the winner of the competition is Cedric Lathan.
So Cedric, tell us a bit more about yourself and what you do.
“My name is Cedric and I’m the fulltime head audio engineer at a performing arts center in San Francisco, Ca. I’ve been working at the center for the past 26 years. Before that I was working at an audio company where John Meyer started working on his now famous, Meyer UPA speaker. He was gone when I started there but many of the engineers who worked on his projects with him were still there. I do primarily live sound but occasionally do some stereo recording and multi-track recording of a live performance. We’ve done everything from a simple one microphone stand-up comedy show to a 50 piece steel drum band on stage.
We’ve gone from the analog days of the Yamaha PM3000 32 channel mixer with single passive speakers in multiple positions to a full line array with a Yamaha CL5 digital console. It’s amazing to see how small things have gotten over the years and to imagine how tiny a studio monitor can get. I use booth monitor now just to get a bit of the room sound into the open window of the booth.“
How Cedric Plans To Use His New EVE SC203 Monitors
“Where the EVE Audio SC203 monitors will come in is in the theatre booth, I can have a small reference monitor to get a bit more of the theatre sound into the open booth window with a much smaller footprint. I’d also use them for any mixing we’d have to do. We do some occasional voice-overs for production announcements. Because they’re so portable, I can also move them from the theater to my small home studio and get the same reference monitor that I’d use at work. No more wondering how the mix sounds from space to space as long as I can sit in the same relative listening position. From the specs, they get down to a very low frequency for their size. Hopefully, this translates well without also having to drag around a sub speaker.”
Cedric, we wish you all the best with your new EVE Audio SC203 desktop studio monitors. .
