So who started recording music on an Atari ST computer using C-Lab Creator?
The forerunner to what is now Apple Logic Pro X, C-Lab Creator began life on the Atari ST computer in 1987. For many C-Lab Creator was the start of their computer music journey.
Creator had a Main Screen and an Edit Page (sound familiar?) Furthermore the Main Screen was ingenious and allowed for most song creation without having to open further menus. Songs were created using short loops, of varying lengths and then assembled in the Arrange Section on the same screen.
It was common to find studios with an Atari 1040 or 520ST sitting in the control room as the hub to their MIDI creation and when in 1989 a EBU/SMPTE sync box ‘Unitor’ was released it made Creator even more powerful.
For many Creator holds a special place in their heart and it still has a workflow and features that even modern DAWs struggle to beat.
Simple, rock solid MIDI and powerful - what’s not to like?
