News of the new tape emulation plug-in “Reel To Reel” may have passed you by in the raft of updates Antelope Audio have been announcing to their FPGA based real-time effects platform. In this video from the team at Antelope check out how the 4 different flavours of tape emulation Reel To Reel offers can be use to gently add colour and dynamics to your mix.
Reel To Reel
In modern audio production, adding tape saturation is a bit like adding reverb. We want to use it everywhere because we don’t like that sterile digital sound.
Reel To Reel is a combination of the finest tape formulas, the pristine tape heads and the best electronics. The combinations allowed between all those will create endless scenarios and amazing tape tone. You can experiment with bias settings, tape hiss, switch between four types of tape and adjust wow & flutter amounts. Taking control of these parameters will give your projects the warmth and colour you crave. Reel To Reel is an FPGA-powered effect, and thus operates with next to 0 latency.
Four Tape Variations
Type 1 - Lower saturation level and a higher THD, good frequency response.
Type 2 - Higher THD and enhanced high frequency response.
Type 3 - Good dynamics and enhanced low and mid range.
Type 4 - Good dynamics with lower THD level.
