Our friends at UVI have just released a new contemporary keyboard instrument for both UVI Workstation and Falcon platforms called Augmented Piano that UVI describes as a creative piano workshop.
Augmented Piano includes 24 configurations that were sampled from a 1909 Pleyel Grand Piano. Full 88-key preparations cover a vast range of timbres from brushed, finger-plucked and muted preparations to haunting eBow resonances and brilliant metallic sounds by way of tacked hammers.
Augmented Piano is the total opposite of traditional piano instruments. It's an inspiring set of sounds that range from beautifully recorded traditional piano to new, eclectic and avant-garde tones ready to breathe life into your music by taking the sound of the piano further than it’s ever been.
3 fully-mixable mic sets that include a pair of condenser mics, a stereo ribbon mic and a floor-mounted PZM mic, will provide users will lots of flexibility with the piano sounds. All 24 presets have their own distinct tonal characteristics from bell-like timbral augmentations with tacked hammers to radical sustains by way of bow and eBow, to percussive sounds from brush and stick strikes to plucks with a guitar pick and finger.

Dan Cooper's Thoughts On UVI's Augmented Piano
What I like about Augmented Piano is that UVI clearly, and quite literally, thought outside of the box with this instrument. Do we really need another traditional sounding piano VI? I doubt we do. Personally, I like keyboard instruments that have edge and personality, Augmented Piano has both of those attributes in spades!
