I got a preview of this new Output instrument at NAMM a couple of weeks ago, and it is fantastic!
Analog Brass & Winds
The name though, like their Analog Strings instrument, is a bit misleading. Analog Brass & Winds is more about the idea of brass; deconstructing it, twisting, curving, and re-shaping it into a work of modern art than it is about actual acoustic brass samples. If you want trumpets and trombones, go somewhere else for traditional multi-samples.
Analog Brass & Winds twists brass sounds into musical pretzels applying Output's, by now well developed modulation, tape loop, and rhythm engines. It’s got all the sound shaping functions found in Analog Strings, but this time with fresh new brass and woodwind samples to tweak to your heart's content. The four easily programmable macros make it super easy to generate interesting variations of each of the presets.
From the official press release:
Co-Founder and CEO, Gregg Lehrman, describes the instrument; “If you know Output, you know we love taking something traditional and flipping it on it’s head. From Stranger Things to Bon Iver to Future, we’re inspired by artists that use Brass and Woodwind sounds in new ways. So we set out to build a VST that pushes it even further - it’s part synth, part huge ensemble. It’s detuned, manipulated and raw. It doesn’t matter if you’re a producer, composer or artist... if you like your palette cool and weird, while still being musical, it’s for you.”
