In this video, brought to you with the support of Universal Audio, my buddy Morey Richman and I put the Suhr SE 100 guitar amp and the EP-34 Tape Echo to work on a couple of guitar parts. Based on the vintage Echoplex, this plug-in reproduces the rich and colorful distortion available from the Recording Volume knob. The grit and distortion it generates was an important part of the original hardware unit. The slow modulating wow and flutter is faithfully reproduced and controlled with the two tape tension settings.
Clipping the input is only one aspect of this unit’s unique sound. Driving the repeats to near oscillation creates a dark and gritty almost pad like sustained sound.
Here Morey lays down two guitar parts, each with subtly unique and colorful tape delay settings. Combined they create a thick and rich unique sounding guitar tone.
