In this video interview for Pro Tools Expert, Technical Editor James Ivey talks to producer, engineer and "Beat Maker" Johan Hugo about his work, his new studio, the sand floor and his ideas about music and recording.
They start by talking about Johan's new studio which is designed as a room within a room within an old railway goods yard building. The floor is still very much a work in progress but Johan explains the idea behind using a compressed sand layer to both de-couple and even out the floor ready for the upper board layers.
Johan's approach to recording is quite a simple one using minimal kit. As he travels to some of the more remote places to record his gear needs to be portable and durable so he tells us what he chooses and why.
