Passeq from SPL is a plug-in emulation of a complex passive EQ. The filters in Passive equalisers interact with each other and the smooth results they are known for are the result of the complex interactions of all these components working together. In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers tries out the Passeq on the drums in a track.
Nvelope from Elysia is a very flexible transient processor. In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers tries out the Nvelope on the drums and bass in a track from Joel Tavares “Salt in Fresh Cuts”. Julian uses Nvelope to control the attack and sustain portions of the sound softening the attack of the bass to clear space for the transient of the kick drum.
This week we are featuring MConvolutionEZ a free convolution reverb which comes with a great library of impulse responses covering the usual halls, chambers, plates rooms and more unusual things such as futz type effects like phones and radios, speaker cabinets and microphones.
The Lindell Audio Channel X brings together the 7X-500 compressor, the PEX-500 EQ and the 6X-500 preamp. In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers tries out the Channel X on a vocal from Joel Tavares in his track “Salt in Fresh Cuts”. The FET style compressor, Pultec style passive EQ and the very analogue sounding preamp emulation make this a very flexible channel strip capable of everything from subtle sweetening to aggressive parallel processing.
In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Nova from Tokyo Dawn. NOVA is a parallel dynamic equalizer. Appearing in the familiar layout of a parametric equalizer, each band also includes a full featured dynamics section allowing the processor to cover an impressively wide range of applications.
In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates how the Mono-maker as found in the bx_digital V3 EQ is the perfect tool to sort this out. By setting the Monomaker just high enough to keep the deep bass narrow but letting the midrange and top end move right across the panorama it is the ideal example to show what mono-maker does and why you might want it.
In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Krush from Tritik. With its bit crushing and downsampling algorithms, Krush combines the crispy taste of the digital realm with the warmth of its drive stage and analog modelled resonant filters. A modulation section allows you to quickly add extra life to the sound by modulating any parameter.
Ever needed to recreate the Doppler effect as an object passes you? Tonsturm has released a plug-in called Traveler that has been designed to produce that unique Doppler effect using a graphical path editor in the GUI to enable a sound’s virtual movement, but that is just the start...
This sound design tutorial from Tonsturm covers different techniques and workflows and you be able to see the powerful plug-in Traveler in action.
In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Tube Sat Vintage from Wave Arts. Tube Sat Vintage is a free reissue of the original Tube Saturator. It uses circuit simulation technology to faithfully reproduce the sound of a dual triode preamp. While it sounds great, the circuit simulation technology is very CPU intensive, that’s why Wave Arts developed its successor, Tube Saturator 2. Tube Saturator 2 is vastly more efficient, nearly identical in simulation accuracy, and adds other features. However, some users prefer the sound of the original and request it, hence they have released it as a free plug-in.
BYOME (Build Your Own Modular Effect) is, as the name suggests, Modular and the endless modulation possibilities this presents are deep. In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates how the Scope module can be used to visualise the CV style modulation signals used to modulate Effect Cells in BYOME. He uses a very simple kick drum and synth drone example to show how modulation can be used in very specific and targeted ways and how this is made easier using the Scope.
Byome stands for Build Your Own Modular Effects. I cut my teeth in the era of affordable hardware multi effects. They were great but they were often so tedious to programme that many didn't bother going in deep.
In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Ochre from Acustica. The Ochre "HOMEBREW" EQ is an EQ equipped with 3 individually switchable parametric bands. It’s the first plug-in of the HOMEBREW series, a new series of Acustica plug-ins with what they describe as a “gorgeous graphical user interfaces allowing easy and quick parameter changes”.
The Acme Opticom XLA-3 is a vintage style optical compressor which combines just enough control to be more flexible than some better known optical compressors with bags of character and old school vibe. In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates the XLA-3 on some drums, electric piano and bass.
