World famous Post Production company and software developer, Todd-AO have released a brand new update to their Absentia DX Noise Reduction software, bringing built-in AAX functionality to Pro Tools users.
The new Absentia AAX plug-in integrates the standalone plug-in into Pro Tools, allowing users to seamlessly send audio to and from the Absentia DX stand-alone software.
The Absentia DX algorithm analyzes production dialog recordings and then removes obvious hums, wireless rings, and ticks, while maintaining the integrity of the human voice.
Mike Thornton reviewed the previous version of Absentia DX and found:
This is a very clever application that is great for batch processing complete folders of production sound, it's the sort of job you could hand off the an assistant to setup and process. I have to say the Hum Remover is spectacular, and the Broadband Reducer and Tick Remover are great on normal audio that just needs a little cleaning up. The price is amazing just $49, so if you regularly have production sound coming in that needs a little work doing on it then you should check out Absentia DX from Todd-AO.
ABDX was developed for a network television show with "difficult" production sound that resulted in substantial repetitive manual processing, in order that the edit suite could work with cleaned rushes, rather than having to wait for the post sound department to check if the audio is usable after the edit has finished.
In the standalone application, the sound files’ metadata and Sound File ID are identical to the original files, except for the sonic issues that have been addressed. Identical metadata makes the process of re-linking to cleaned audio and passing it on, that much easier. Adding the Pro Tools AAX plug-in makes this process far simpler and less risky than fiddling with the Audio Files folder of your project.
