Monitor Path Headroom From The Send
This is a very simple tip but many people don't know this expanded view of the floating faders available for track outputs and sends is there. What it provides is the meter from a master fader for any particular output or bus path whether that master fader has been created or not. Actually Master Faders already exist at summing points in the Pro Tools Mixer, creating a Master Fader just displays it.
Headroom On Busses
Although headroom is less of an issue than it used to be in the old 48 bit fixed-point days of TDM, it is still good practice to monitor and manage headroom properly. This example shows an example with six Booms! (not something any session should contain...) all feeding an output path and a reverb send and by using the Monitor Path view it is easy and convenient to identify headroom issues on the reverb send.
Although floating point architecture is very forgiving of overs, the same can't be said of busses feeding headphones or outputs to outboard equipment.
