I’ve got lots of plugins which do saturation/distortion effects but there are two I always keep in mind when looking for treatments at the subtle end of the distortion spectrum.
One of these is the brilliant and much-celebrated Saturation Knob from Softube. The other I’ve always kept in mind as a complementary alternative to Saturation Knob is the equally brilliant, but distinctly different Soundtoys Little Radiator.
This was given away free as one of their annual SWSX freebies and I’ve used it consistently ever since. When looking for something a little more than “warmth” but not going as far as “dirt” I’ll often try these as either/or alternatives. The thing I like about them so much, and I do think of them as a pair, is that they offer two distinct choices but that’s it. No myriad of choices and endless tweaks just which one and how much? I like that!
Soundtoys Little Radiator is now available for $19 (usually $79) until August 15th whilst the Softube Saturation Knob is free, watch this video to see these two plug-ins (and eight others) in action on a bass guitar.
