We bet you looked at the title of this post and thought "click bait." If we got your to read then, we are glad, but the title of this article is based on the fact that RIN-M is a new plug-in designed to help the artist create and submit credits right from within their session. This makes it perhaps the most important plug-in you own - and it's free!
You may recall our recent article on why we think TIDAL is the musician's friend, one reason it offers the ability to put full credits on tracks, from the writer to the bass player, from the assistant to the mastering engineer.
However, a system is only as good as the data it has been given. RIN-M aims to help to create and to submit that information easier. Soundways the creators of this new plug-in say;
"The metadata revolution in the music industry is here. RIN-M creates a full set of metadata, in the least possible amount of time. Also, we have made it free, to be sure everyone has access."
How Does RIN-M Work?
Soundways go on to explain how it works.
DDEX is a consortium of companies including Apple, Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, and over 30 others. They met over the course of 10 years to make music metadata standards. For 4 of those years, The Recording Information Notification (RIN) standard was being discussed and prepared.
Now the wait is over, and a powerful industry-first is acheived. Soundways developed the first software that implements the RIN standard, as a multi-platform audio plug-in.
RIN-M makes entering metadata as streamlined as possible, as it was developed using modern design thinking methods and UX auditing.
In seconds, hundreds of lines of metadata can be generated.
How does it work in practice?
RIN-M is a check-in system for people and companies, as they create music.
- Enter artist name & song title
- Enter a participant's info and save it to a profile
- Add additional info in the lower section
- Export the RIN file & send it downstream with the project
- Profiles are created only once, afterwards it takes only seconds to check-in with profiles
