It is widely rumoured that Apple will unveil a set of new features in macOS 10.13, but what about Apple hardware, what are the rumours on what Apple might announce about new Apple hardware that would be of interest to Pro Tools users?
Even though Apple introduced 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro models with a Touch Bar and upgraded internals in October of 2016, rumours suggest that Apple might announce new MacBook Pro models rumoured to feature faster, more efficient Kaby Lake chips, and new GPUs and other internal spec bumps. The new processors and the GPU enhancements would be useful for Pro Tools users, but Apple is also rumoured to be working on a high-end MacBook Pro model that will support up to 32GB of RAM, but it may not be ready for WWDC 2017 and may appear towards the end of 2017. This would be very interesting fro Pro Tools users as we have shown that even 16GB of RAM isn't ideal fro Pro Tools when using the Avid Video Engine.
There are rumours that Apple has a 10.5-inch iPad Pro in the works, that might make an appearance at WWDC. The new iPad Pro is rumoured to be the same size as the 9.7" iPad, but with a larger 10.5" display. This new model is also rumoured to have an upgraded processor, improved cameras, True Tone flash, quad speakers, and a True Tone display. Avid Pro Tools Dock users may be interested in this but the size of the body maybe an issue...
What's Not Expected To Be Announced At WWDC 2017
The rumours suggest that the Apple's desktop Macs, including the iMac and the Mac mini, although desperately in need of updates, are not expected to be announced due to the lack of detailed rumours on them even though as we have reported, Apple executives have said new iMacs, including high-end pro-level models, are in the works.
