In this free video tutorial, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers uses the Elysia Alpha Compressor from Plugin Alliance on the master buss of a session to demonstrate the use of subtle parallel compression to raise the level of low level elements of a mix.
Parallel Compression Isn't Just About Crushing The Drum Buss
In this tutorial Julian sets up a gentle parallel compression to raise the level of the ride cymbal and the rhythm guitar without affecting the significant peaks introduced by the kick or allowing the loud bass guitar to dominate the action of the compressor to achieve an upward compression effect.
This compressor features the Niveau filter as found in the free plug-in of the same name. For a full explanation of this filter see the dedicated tutorial on this plug-in.
