From the show floor at NAB 2017 Avid Application Specialist Jeff Komar shows Synth Expert Editor Stephen Fortner the new Dolby Atmos Integration and native workflows being introduced into Pro Tools HD soon.
Check out this video to see close up and personal some of the new Dolby Atmos integration feature Avid are adding into Pro Tools HD, to be released sometime in June.
One Expanded Panner In Pro Tools For Surround, Dolby Atmos Stems And Objects
Avid have extended their normal surround panner to now handle the Dolby Atmos stem and object panning all in one panner. This allows users to automatically automate between the bus and object outputs and translate panning between various formats.
Expand Fader Zone
As a demonstration of the new Avid S6 integration for Dolby Atmos workflows you can see in this video you can see a new Expand Fader Zone feature that brings control of the Dolby Atmos panner onto a block of faders on the S6 as well as being able to control it from the touch screen in the S6, the soft knobs around the touch screen and the joystick panel on the S6.
Convert Legacy Dolby Atmos Panner Data To The Integrated Pro Tools Panner
Also in this video Jeff shows how with one click using the Duplicate Dolby Atmos Plug-in Automation To Panner Automation menu item in the Track menu enabling you to take sessions that use up to 118 Dolby Atmos AAX Panner plug-ins and take the metadata from the Dolby Atmos Object Panner plug-ins and translate the metadata into Pro Tools pan data for the integrated panner and automation system globally for a session. This allows users to take all the existing Dolby Atmos content created in Pro Tools and make it compatible with newer versions of the software.
Automated Routing Between Dolby Atmos Beds And Objects
Your track elements can be simultaneously feeding a buss or an object which enable users to do automated routing, so on the fly you could turn a dialog track which is feeding into the dialog buss into an object and then move it up into the overheads, maybe for a special effect like radio comms, and then bring it back into the bed.
You Don't Always Need The Dolby RMU
Pro Tools HD will also automatically reroute objects to a listening bus when not connected a Dolby Atmos renderer. This is very helpful for editorial when full Dolby Atmos monitoring isn’t required. This is an extension of what Avid introduced in Pro Tools 12 with the automatic surround to stereo fold down which ensures no data is lost when moving between rooms no matter what the monitoring environment is.
Plug-ins On the Way From Developers Like Exponential Audio And Nugen Audio
As we covered in the news story on the new Dolby Atmos integration into Pro Tools, Avid has extended the AAX plug-in format to support 7.1.2 and 7.0.2 formats. In fact, they released a preview AAX SDK to their partners last year to help them plan ahead and we are aware of new plug-ins from Nugen Audio and Exponential Audio, which are due to be released when Avid releases the new version of Pro Tools supporting the Dolby Atmos integration later in June.
Integration With The Dolby Atmos Production Suite
Another unique feature to Pro Tools is the integration Avid has with the Dolby Atmos Production Suite, which allows users to record, playback and monitor Dolby Atmos content without the need for external hardware and a lot more. You can already buy the Dolby Atmos Production Suite from the Avid store and you can read more about it in our story on the Dolby Atmos Production Suite and Mastering Suite.
