We can announce that Csongor Mrena is the lucky winner. You can learn more about Csongor further down the article.
What Is In The Audified Unique Bundle?
Audified have very kindly given us a bundle of software and plugins with MixChecker, U73b compressor, U78 Saturator, RZ062 Equalizer, and TNT Voice Executor.
In this video review Pro Tools Expert team member Dan Cooper takes a close look at MixChecker By Audified. MixChecker is a simple plug-in that enables users to reference their mixes through a variety of simulated playback systems in real-time ranging from on-ear headphones through to NS10 style monitors and home domestic speakers. Watch the video to hear how it performs and to find out what Dan thinks. For more information and to purchase please visit the Audified website:
- 12 very different simulated playback systems
- Compensation setting for headphone use
- Mac & Windows compatible
- AAX 32/64 bit, AU 32/64 bit, VST2 32/64 bit, VST3 32/64bit
Summary - What Dan Thinks Of Mixchecker By Audified
MixChecker is a cool little plug-in, it is very simple to use and is no thrills. It gives you an idea of what's going on across different playback systems, it's not trying to simulate these things like a hardcore emulation plugin, it is just there to help you reference your mix so you know you are in the ballpark.
Audified U73b Compressor
In this review, Mike takes a look at the new version of this U73b emulation from Audified of an old German hardware compressor limiter unit that found favour in German broadcasting and further afield in vinyl mastering. Watch the review and see how Mike got on with it.
What Is New In The Audified U73b v2 Plugin?
Audified’s all-new U73b Compressor stands out from its predecessor released back in May 2015 with an almost photo-realistic rendering of the hardware on which the plug-in is modelled. In addition there is now an area to display numerically editable parameters or menu functions and settings that are not available via the ‘modelled module’ — including Preset Loading and Saving, and a HPF switch.
Digging deeper still, Audified’s new version of their U73b Compressor now has true side-chaining to control the compression and improved processing with added adjustable Oversampling. When Oversampling is enabled, the internal plug-in processing runs at a higher sample rate than is set in the DAW to help reduce aliasing distortion that is always produced by nonlinear effect processing and also improve high-frequency processing.
There is now an automatic gain control option (Auto) with Ein (on) and Aus (off) settings; and -9dB default Kalib. (calibration) setting to help translate the dBu settings on the original hardware unit and referring them to dBFS which is what DAWs like Pro Tools tend to use.
Version 2 of the Audified U73b plugin now has a language option so if you would prefer to have all the controls labelled in English, you can, as this is now a Preferences option.
Audified U78 Saturator
Audified have released their U78 Saturator, which is a saturation effects plug-in utilising their models of the analogue circuitry central to the U73b plugin but removing the U73b Compressor’s compression function and adding filters. The high-pass filter, which has a cut-off frequency range of 30 to 800Hz and the low-pass filter both come before the saturation circuit in the signal path. Alongside the filters is a Tone control with lower settings producing 'darker' sounds with more low-frequency content while higher settings result in brighter, 'sparkly' sounds. Finally, a gain control adjusts the input gain of the saturation circuit — the higher the settings, the more saturation you get.
Audified RZ062 Equalizer
Audified have continued their theme of modelling older rare hardware units like the U73B compressor and its derivative the U78 Saturator. Now they have turned their attention to an EQ and have just released the RZ062 Equalizer plug-in bundle modelled on the vintage Klangfilm RZ062a and RZ062b valve EQ modules.
The RZ062 Equalizer plug-in bundle is based on the namesake models of the scarce sixties-vintage Klangfilm RZ062a and RZ062b valve EQ modules made by German electronics giant Siemens for installation in its film sound-centric Universal Mixing and Control Console known as the Klangfilm System.
Both versions of the plug-in let the user adjust treble and bass and just like their hardware namesakes, the two EQ modules differ in the function of the mids control. The mid control of RZ062A rotates the entire frequency curve around the central point. Whereas the RZ062Bhas a presence knob that adjusts one of four preset frequencies, designed to cut through very gently and sensitively.
The RZ062 Equalizer plug-ins are also equipped with INPUT and OUTPUT level knobs, and a Set Calibration function to enable you to set how hard you drive the modules and so much much valve sound saturation you get.
You can work in LINKED mode, control LR (left and right) channels independently, or switch to the MS (mid-side) mode that makes it a great tool for mastering.
Audified TNT Voice Executor
The TNT Voice Executor from Audified is what they describe as a "unique utilitarian plug-in offering no-nonsense processing of vocal and spoken word tracks". In this review, Mike is going see what it can do.
This is a voice processing plugin with minimal controls. Essentially you select a preset and adjust the Drive control to determine how much processing you want. It picks up on a plugin design trend where all the work is done under the hood and there are relatively few options to adjust on the user interface. Most of the options are in the Presets menu, with the presets grouped into male and female vocals, Speech and a Specials menu.
It is a preset driven voice and vocal processor, with minimal controls, which can be a little restrictive, but once you get the hang of it you can get it do the necessary. I would prefer if the section indicators were switches as well so you could disable processing sections. There is also no way to save your own variations of the presets within the plugin but of course, you can use the Pro Tools presets option to save your variations.
If you want a tool that will process speech quickly and easily and get you results without lots of controls to adjust then you should check out TNT Executor from Audified.
Csongor Mrena Wins Audified Unique Bundle
In the Pro Tools Expert 2017 Christmas Competition we offered the chance to win one of 31 great prizes worth over $16,000 in total. Csongor Mrena is the winner of the Audified Unique Bundle.
I'm a 21 years old and from Hungary and I started to take interest in audio producing back in 2013. At the moment I'm studying guitar at a conservatory, and later I want to do an audio engineering course, too. I also play the electric guitar and sing in a local band. We have been writing some of our own material during the summer, which I mixed for them in my home studio. I also do some mixing and mastering for my friends.
I'm working with the basic plug-ins of my DAW, unfortunately, I can't afford to buy better plug-ins and rack modules at the moment, so this price comes in very handy for me, and I hope it'll help me to make music in a higher quality.
