Mike Thornton from Pro Tools Expert caught up with Paul Tapper from Nugen Audio at BVE in London and got the first preview of the new 9.1 capable version of their very successful Halo Upmix plug-in which allows the introduction of vertical positioning into the upmix, generating a 7.1.2 (Dolby) bed track-compatible upmix.
The plug-in uses a special additional Send plug-in to handle the stereo ceiling channel audio because currently Pro Tools can only handle up to 7.1 on multi-channel tracks in Pro Tools HD.
In the interview Mike asked about upgrade paths for existing owners and we did check with Jon from Nugen Audio after the interview and because the product is so new they have yet to finalise pricing and upgrade pricing for the new version of Halo Upmix.
Halo Upmix is first product based on Nugen Audio's proprietary new upmixing processes, and has received much critical acclaim since its launch last September at IBC2015 in Amsterdam, where it won the Audio Media Best of Show award. You can also read how it helped a charity client of team member Alan Sallabank out of a sticky corner.
Halo Upmix is available in Avid AAX, VST, and AU formats, and as you can see in my preview review Halo Upmix automates the creation of a stereo-to-surround, downmix-compatible upmix with unique centre channel management and spatial density controls.
