I recently came across Red Libraries and they seem to a new outfit on the block and have a number or their own libraries as well as a range of 3rd party libraries on the site and store.
They have a small 13 sound Freebies - 01 Collection which is made up of typically french modern atmos from small to big shops, these sounds are the first of a set, specialized in French shops but they do say that the Supermarkets are neutral enough to be used in every country .
Also on their site is a detailed article on the Making Of Matter Mayhem which is a co-prouction between Red Libraries, Big Wheels Studio and Soundmorph. Cedric Denooz and Frederic Devanlay have put together this insight into recording this library....
Sonocaine Release Rustle
Sebastian Morsch from Sonocaine got in touch to say...
I'm a very happy reader of PE and I especially like the fact that you post the SFX roundup every week. I believe this really helps fueling this fantastic new indy SFX biosphere. When you first start any kind of e-commerce endeavor, it's a little bit like putting up a lemonade stand in your living room. No one will come unless you let them know that the lemonade is really good!
Sebastian has released his first library Rustle which is a sound library with recordings of grass, leaves, scrubs, branches, rods, twigs & trees rustling in the wind. His goal was to create a versatile library with high quality recordings of natural sounding ambience and foley sweeteners.
Sebastian told us...
Designing beautiful winds or other natural ambiences can be tricky. Often, the rustling of leaves is the key to convey wind movement clearly and believably. And sometimes it's simply an in-scene tree or bush that needs some presence, but with the right perspective. I always found it difficult to get my hands on nicely textured and well-defined rustling sounds and that's why I recorded this library. Many different (as diverse as possible) plants where dragged in the studio and tied up to hang dangling from the ceiling. Then I tested different methods of making them rustle in the most natural way.
For a limited period you can buy Rustle for $29 instead of the normal price of $49.
Tonstrum Release Tremor
Tilman from Tonstrum got in touch to tell us about his latest release, Tremor. He said that this library features all droning, rumble, rattle and shake sound effects one could ever wish for!
This library features haunting rattle and earth shaking rumble sound effects. They did a lot of research and experimentation and finally came up with a very powerful and precise setup that enabled them to make all sorts of objects and materials resonate and vibrate to specific sounds and frequencies. They transduced low frequency bass and impact sound waves via two high precision iBeam bass shakers, into huge objects like train wagons, wooden storage racks, big metal gates, but also smaller setups like wine glasses, telephones, plastic cases and and a lot more.
You can get Tremor in one of two formats. Either in LCR at 192kHz for $159 or as stereo at 96kHz for $129.
Blind Bird Watcher and Recordist Juan Pablo Culasso
I am just in awe of Juan Pablo and had to share a bit of his story with you. Juan Pablo Culasso has been blind since birth but he has become one of the best "birdwatchers" in South America.
This guy is a true inspiration. Blind from birth, he's found his purpose recording birds and the sounds of nature. he told us...
For the great majority of people sounds are 'Invisible' and my work, my mission is for them to become 'Visible'. Since childhood I have always had contact with birds. I appreciate them in an unusual way. Not being able to see birds doesn't mean I don't know them. I observe them in a different way, through their voices.
