Free Tutorial: Introduction To VCAs In Pro Tools

In another free Pro Tools tutorial, from community member Paul Maunder, we look at VCA masters in Pro Tools.

VCA masters have been available in Pro Tools HD software for a number of years. As of Pro Tools 12.2 they are also available in the native version of Pro Tools. A Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) provides a means of easily controlling a group of faders, allowing the overall level of the grouped tracks to be brought up or down whilst maintaining the relative balance of the group members and retaining the individual track automation. This video gives an overview of how to setup and use VCAs and how they differ from Aux Tracks.

More On Paul Maunder

After initially starting his career producing radio commercials, Paul went on to design and run a post-production studio, working on corporate videos and TV programmes. He is a certificated Pro Tools expert in post production sound, and outside of the studio, he also works on location heading up film shoots. Paul also helps others progress their knowledge and careers through an involvement with the UK's leading sound engineering school SSR in Manchester.
