Providing The Tools We Need
The reality is broadcasters and content producers have a lot of archive and legacy content which will need to be repurposed for the world of loudness normalisation and it is great to see tools that can handle batch conversion intelligently to help convert the back catalogues and also enable broadcasters to repurpose content for different platforms.
The Digital Production Partnership (DPP) have done a great job bringing together all the UK broadcasters to agree to one delivery spec, which makes our lives so much easier in UK content post production. We would strongly recommend all broadcasters and territories to look at what the DPP has done and adopt the same process, please don’t re-invent the wheel, please can we have one standard.
At IBC this year Nugen Audio are announcing two new extensions for LMB which is an offline file-based batch loudness analysis and correction program for high throughput applications.
The first is DynApt which is a new dynamic adaption technology for loudness compliant audio repurposing of legacy content. DynApt is designed to address the challenges of repurposing theatrical content to TV in the context of full loudness compliance, giving audio engineers a new option for adapting the content in a fast and efficient manner with the aim to preserve dialogue clarity. DynApt can also provide similar benefits when adapting TV content for mobile streaming, or any other application that requires adapting dynamics accurately to the constraints of the delivery system. Working much faster than real-time, DynApt adapts dynamic audio appropriately for different listening environments and playout systems, while respecting the level of dialog in the original mix and meeting specific loudness criteria. DynApt reduces re-purposing costs, streamlines workflow and facilitates loudness compliance while above all, improving quality. Data logs provide evidential accuracy, eliminating mistakes, fines and maintaining accuracy.
LMB Processor’s MXF Extension is the first Nugen Audio product set to receive DPP AS-11 certification, a result of the company’s participation in the Digital Production Partnership (DPP) compliance program. The DPP is an alliance of all the UK broadcasters and means in the UK we have one delivery spec for all UK broadcasters and the DPP have worked hard to make sure the spec is achievable in the real world. Making its IBC debut, the MXF Extension introduces native MXF audio-handling that enables LMB Processor to perform automated analysis and correction of audio within an MXF container while preserving all other data within the file.
With the Native MXF extension option, the LMB Processor assesses and corrects the audio within an MXF container, leaving other data intact, saving time and avoiding potential errors. Batch-file automation, network hot folders and XML log files make LMB Processor an ideal workgroup solution with the MXF Extension.
