Here’s a tip for post users who use clip gain for setting the coarse gain on sync clips. Try using plug-in gain instead.
Assuming you have an automated EQ plug-in on each of your sync tracks, you can use the gain controls on the plug-in to set the level on the clip.
For example the McDSP Channel G EQ has 24db in and out - 48dB altogether - a lot more than you get with clip gain. But the big advantage is it is much easier to copy and paste than clip gain - and you can copy and paste multiple tracks at once.
Say you have a block of eight sync tracks - you’ve gained and EQ’d them on one scene then the same scenario turns up a few scenes later. Just turn off “Link Timeline and Edit Selection”, select the clips you want to act on, put the cursor over the scene you have already done, then “Option-Command /” will copy ALL your automation settings to the new scene - including gain. Try doing that with clip gain!
