If you missed Neil and I batting stuff around on last night’s podcast then you may have missed the response from CPTK2 owners regarding their upgrade path to Pro Tools 11.
When we asked for feedback on the Pro Tools 11 announcement by email whilst the majority were excited about the new release and the features offered, there was a continued theme of concern from exisiting CPTK2 owners. Here are just a selection of the many emails we received;
“It seems Avid want me to pay another $1000 (sic) dollars to maintain features I already own” Eric M
“I don’t mind paying $599for the extra features but $999 is simply ridiculous” Ernest A
“CPTK2 owners are feeling royally shafted right now. I’d happily pay the HD upgrade price - I really don’t see why we should pay $400 just to keep stuff we’ve already paid for - it’s just crazy” Chaz C
“I could accept a reasonable upgrade fee from PT10+CPTK to PT11 HD, but as it stands now I’m treated as if I had never bought the CPTK in the first place.” Mattias
We can’t help but agree.
If CPTK2 owners invested to get HD features before, then surely the fair thing would be for Avid to treat these owners as if they were upgrading from HD10 to HD11 at $599, not the $999 it currently stands at.
We do hope Avid have a rethink on the CPTK2 - Pro Tools 11 pricing decision - it seems such a shame to mar such a great product launch with a pricing policy that seems illogical and unreasonable. Why spoil such a beautiful perfume with this fly?
