MMA (MIDI Manufacturers Association) is planning to meet at this year’s NAMM to review a proposed specification for HD MIDI.
On their website they say;
“On January 27, members of the HD Protocol Working Group will provide a private demonstration of prototype hardware and software using a working draft of the HD Protocol Specification. Various devices will be connected via wired and wireless Ethernet, to demonstrate the plug-and-play connection and session management capabilities built into the HD Protocol, as well as features such as
- Higher resolution controls.
- More throughput.
- New messages that were not practical with the MIDI 1.0 protocol
- MIDI device compatibility.
The purpose of the demonstration is to encourage more companies to participate in completing the HD Protocol Specification. Therefore, invitations to the event will be extended only to companies that qualify to be MMA members and express an interest in joining MMA to participate in this project. Manufacturers and developers of MIDI hardware/software that are interested in attending this demonstration may visit http://www.midi.org/hd-invite for information about how to obtain an invitation.
Note: To be very clear, there will be no admission for anyone who is not qualified to join MMA, so don’t even ask.”
