Legendary Jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck passed away yesterday at his home in Connecticut. He was 91 years of age. He would have celebrated his 92nd birthday today. A tribute concert this evening that was planned in celebration of his birthday will go on but will now be a tribute to his life and memory.
Over the course of the past several decades the music of Dave Brubeck influenced countless musicians. I can remember first hearing the Dave Brubeck Quartet album “Time Out”, which featured “Take Five” and “Blue Rondo a la Turk”, as a teenager. At that point the album was almost 20 years old, but it was new and fresh to me. I still listen to that album regularly. Although he is gone, I don’t believe that he’ll be forgotten for a very long time.
