I was contacted recently by a pioneering PC user who shall only be known as “El Polo Loco” who had decided to go out on a limb and invest in a Thunderbolt equipped PC Laptop manufactured by Lenovo to try and use the HD Native Thunderbolt interface by Avid.
Heres what they said:
I decided I would be one of the first to get the Lenovo S430 with thunderbolt and so far it has been awesome.
I added a 2nd drive and upgraded to 16GB ram but apart from that it’s straight off the shelf.
Attached are some pictures of it recording 64 tracks @ 48K with the playback at 32 samples with on 13% on the cpu usage.
No sweat !
I actually tested it recording 256 tracks the other day at 32 samples 48K and the cpu was @ 26%. Easy
I recorded a gig with it the other night straight off a Venue Profile. Recording 35 tracks for 4 hours without a glitch and barely getting over 3% cpu.
Even had a diehard Mac Fan boy grudgingly admited it was performing well.
“El Polo Loco”
- Its fantastic news for those wishing to adopt the interface as soon as possible and not wait for Avid qualification,
As we have said on the site and the Podcast many times “Not Qualified” does not mean “Will Not Work” and it’s thanks to people like “El Polo Loco” flying in the face of convention that moves us forward without having to wait around for qualification.
That said please bear in mind if something is “Not Qualified” don’t expect deep support or much assistance from Avid until it hits “Qualified” status.
Many thanks to our secret squirrel superhero “El Polo Loco” for bringing this to our attention!
