Tim’s publishing career began with Music Technology, a UK-based hi-tech musicians' magazine riding the eighties synth boom, and exploring electronic music of all flavours, from musique concrète to dance – leading and learning with the help of equipment reviews and artist interviews. Although no longer published, Music Technology's content serves as reference material on the music and technology of the eighties and early nineties.
He was the longest-serving editor of technical professional audio magazine Studio Sound. Established as The Tape Recorder in 1959 and widely regarded as an international pro audio industry reference, Studio Sound carried influential equipment reviews and technical features written by the industry's leading commentators.
Tim was co-founder of Blank Canvas, the publisher of Pro Audio Asia and Pro Audio Middle East magazines (now Pro AVL Asia and Pro AVL Middle East). The company's aim was to serve the professional audio markets in Asia and the Middle East through print magazines and an associated website.
It was established in 2002 with Pro Audio Asia (English language), followed by a translation into Simplified Chinese and the launch of Pro Audio Middle East in 2004 and subsequently Worship Audio Asia (now Worship AVL Asia).
Tim went on to set up Fast-and-Wide in 2010 and I am based in Brighton, England – where you will find the highest density of journalists and web developers in the UK. He is also a member of the Brighton chapter of Hacks/Hackers.
He has also contributed to a number of books and had features and photographs published in European, US and Asian magazines covering music and technology and has worked with UK record labels on biographies and other projects.
