Avid have announced an iOS app for controlling Pro Tools, Pro Tools Control, which is ‘coming soon’ and will be free.
Avid say that the Pro Tools Control App will allow Pro Tools users to:
Control and mix with your iPad using a free new app
They go on to say:
Pro Tools | Control combines the tight hardware/software communication power of EUCON technology with the multi-touch advancements of iOS, putting a whole new world of creative possibilities at your fingertips.
They claim that the Pro Tools Control App will:
interact with your mix in ways you can’t do with a keyboard and mouse alone.
Furthermore they allude to the idea of it being able to perform macros:
Take control over hundreds of software commands and functions, from triggering complex macros with Soft Keys, to writing automation, navigating sessions, and recalling surface layouts.
Although it is not clear if this is part of the intergration with other Eucon based products such as Artist Mix and S3L or if this will be possible using the app alone.
This follows on from Apple’s lead with their free Remote app for Logic X users which shipped in July 2013.
Neyrinck have also made a free Pro Tools control app for iPad for several years, their hugely popular V-Control Free, they also have a paid for version V-Control Pro. Both of these apps use the universal HUI protocol to control Pro Tools. You can download the free Pro Tools V Control app from the iTunes Store.
There is also the very affordable and hugely popular DAW Control App which covers many major DAWs including Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, REAPER and Studio One. More here
