A simple but a very important tip concerning ear fatigue. Sometimes when crafting a mix it can be easy to zone out on a session for hours without taking a break. In my experience, I’ve noticed that my mixes can turn out horrible if I haven’t stepped away to rest my ears. I become too involved with compressing, EQ-ing, or perhaps adjusting levels. Although I think I’m making the right adjustments and tweaks, I find out later (maybe the next day or after an hour has passed) that my mix sounds horrible! I like to step away from a mix every 15 - 30 minutes. I like to listen to other songs that sound similar or step outside. Giving my ears a break resets my mind and helps me to make the right decisions when mixing.
Mike says - It is always good to be reminded of this. I am the worst at I’ll just do this…..
