I know that there are already pre-release copies of Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion on torrents (no I don’t endorse it, just stating a fact, in case mass hysteria breaks out at me even mentioning torrent sites) and perhaps I should let those who are stupid enough to use them and try out the software hang themselves.
However, they may also be legitimate Apple Developers like myself, who have the opportunity to download and install pre-release software. So I have and the news is, as expected, it will kill your Pro Tools install, and iLok and many more applications. SO DON’T DO IT!
In case you’re wondering, I have several drives with several versions of OS X on them, for this very purpose. I also back-up and in the case of this install, did a bit-bit back-up of my drive.
Now if you’re serious about making music and need to use Pro Tools, stick with an older OS. It may not tell you to pick up the kids from school, or tell you about some new email - but it will run Pro Tools.
